In 2014, as part of my journey to healing from cancer, I started practicing yoga and I was hooked from the beginning. I loved how yoga helped create space in my mind and body, and connect to my spirit. Yoga has helped shift my perspective, taught me about self-care and connected me to a community of awesome people. A deep gratitude for this practice, and for my teachers, cultivated the desire to share yoga with others and lead me to pursue my 200 hour yoga teacher certification. I am currently in the 200 RYT program at Seva Yoga in East Grand Rapids. My mission is to create a space for students to connect to breath, quiet the mind and express themselves through movement. My intention is to support you in finding inner peace and joy, discovering your unlimited potential and sharing your light with the world.

Also is enrolled in 300hr program for yoga therapy through the Beaumont Hospital in Detroit Michigan. Completion date is fall of 2017. Has taken workshops from Theresa Murphy, Gabriel Halpern, Moses Brown, Desiree Rumbaugh, Tias Little, Dr. Ray Long, and Mary Reilly. I am a retired Biology, Chemistry and Art teacher. I enjoy horseback riding and gardening. I am happily married to a man that enjoys doing yoga. When we are on vacations we love to go to yoga studios and experience other teachers and styles. I started doing yoga at the age of 48 when a neighbor ask me to go with her. For once in my life I was doing a non competitive activity just for me. Slowly I began feeling the benefits of yoga, physically and mentally. I started telling other people how yoga could help them feel better. As a result, I am teaching again, the subject matter is yoga, but even more helping people to feel better is rewarding for me. My style is a mix of Iyengar and Vinyasa with a dash of Ashtanga. My own receipt you might say! That must be the artist part coming out in me.

I've always had a passion for health and fitness. I have 17 years experience teaching group fitness classes. I've taught aerobics, step, muscle toning, kickboxing, Spinning, Pilates, Zumba, and Yoga. When I started Yoga about 8 years ago, I found that it gave me more total body conditioning than any of the other forms of exercise. Plus I gained confidence, body acceptance, and more clarity to my thinking. My goal is to help bring yoga to this area to touch others lives like it has mine. My yoga training certification is through YogaFit, Levels 1, 2, and 3. I have specialty training in prenatal yoga, and senior's yoga. I have been Ace certified since 1997 for group exercise. I am certified in Pilates, kickboxing, and Zumba.

I have always been an active person and have enjoyed physical activities. I grew up at a time when “working out” did not refer to fitness facilities or yoga studios. But there was dance, tennis, swimming, biking, and skiing. When “fitness” programs became popular, I tried and participated in a variety of them: aerobics (yes, Jane Fonda and Let’s Get Physical), kick boxing, line dancing, Jazzercise, step, weights, running, Zumba and ultimately yoga. I learned a lot from all those programs and am thankful to have had inspiring teachers. I am a certified Group Fitness and Yoga instructor. My focus is yoga, but I also teach some Pilates, free weights and aerobics. My fascination with yoga…it is personal, focusing on all aspects of the individual. Personal fitness for one’s lifetime; appropriate for the very young to the very old. Each time one comes to the yoga mat is an opportunity to express one’s personal fitness needs for that moment in time. And…what other fitness activity makes a big deal of relaxation? Namaste!

I once read: Yoga can be done by any body, you just need the right class. I first encountered yoga at a gym and wasn't impressed. A passionate Anusara instructor invited me to her class, she opened my mind to the beauty of yoga and taught my body the asana. One day I realized the strength I found on the mat was weaving its way into my life off the mat. Following an injury that kept me sidelined for several months, I needed to find a way back to the mat. I found Prairie Yoga Teacher Training and the brilliant April Storms. Her confidence in me inspired me to resurrect my yoga and find ways to work past my injury. That is the principle at the heart of my teaching. My goal in sharing my yoga is to motivate all students who don't think they are strong enough or bendy enough. I want them to enjoy their time on the mat and encourage them to embrace the challenge of the asana, accept their own limitations but not be bound by those limitations. I have deep gratitude to all my teachers and resolve to be an instrument of their knowledge.

Yoga has filled the void deep within me that my other sports could not. I spent years running, doing aerobics and martial arts but there always seemed to be something missing. I have finally found a way to stay physically fit, reduce my stress and anxiety and get closer to true bliss. I have learned to be free from fear when facing my true inner self and accept the challenge of change whenever necessary. I've also learned to accept things I cannot change, like the past and in return I am able to enjoy each moment and day while it is here. I have been doing yoga for about 10 years and I have been certified through the successful completion of the Seva Yoga 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Course for about 3 years. - Namaste
